The Custer app

Custer is a radio player for macOS. It has no accounts, advertising SDKs, or in-app analytics. Custer does not send your saved station list or listening history to a server operated by its developer.

Information stored on your Mac

Station names and addresses, the selected station, volume, mute, autoplay, and click preferences are stored locally in macOS preferences. Login-item registration is managed by macOS. Custer does not maintain a listening-history database.

You can remove saved stations through Edit Stream → Remove, disable autoplay in the menu, and disable Start at login in Custer or macOS System Settings. Removing the app may leave preferences on your Mac. Contact support for help removing remaining settings. There is no Custer account or developer-hosted user profile to delete.

Network connections and radio providers

When Custer loads a station or playlist, it connects directly to the addresses you supply and the servers referenced by those playlists, redirects, or media manifests. Loading can happen when you select or restore a station, even before playback begins. These providers receive your IP address and the requested URL and may keep their own logs or deliver advertisements in the audio. Their privacy policies and retention practices apply. Choose providers you trust and avoid putting private credentials in stream addresses.

Custer supports HTTP as well as HTTPS for compatibility with older stations. HTTP traffic is not encrypted in transit. Prefer HTTPS addresses where available.

Updates

The GitHub edition contacts GitHub to check for releases at launch. If you choose Install, it downloads and installs the update. GitHub receives connection information under its privacy policy. The Mac App Store edition has no GitHub updater; Apple manages its updates.

Support and website

If you contact us through GitHub, information you choose to include is handled by GitHub and used to answer your request. Public issues are public: do not post private stream URLs or credentials. Custer’s main website uses website analytics to record page visits and download-button clicks; this is separate from the app. Download events identify the edition and button location, not whether the app was installed. The landing page also loads fonts from Google Fonts. This privacy page and the support page do not embed analytics or third-party fonts.
