Help & Contact
Custer plays internet radio from your macOS menu bar. It requires macOS 14.6 or later.
Open the menu
The Mac App Store edition opens its menu when you click the icon. The GitHub edition plays or pauses on left-click by default. Right-click or Control-click always opens the menu. Choose Left-click action → Open Menu or Play / Pause to change this behavior.
Add a station
Choose Add Stream and paste a direct HTTP/HTTPS audio address or an M3U/PLS playlist link from your station. A station’s normal webpage is not an audio address. Custer also supports HLS through the macOS media player. Prefer HTTPS links. The first station starts playing when you add it.
Playback and settings
Use Play/Pause in the menu or your media keys. Scroll over the icon to adjust volume. Choose Edit Stream to rename, replace, or remove a station. Autoplay on launch and Start at login are separate, optional settings. If macOS requires approval for a login item, Custer directs you to System Settings. Choose Quit Custer from the menu to exit.
No sound?
Check Custer’s mute and volume controls and your Mac’s audio output. Confirm that the address is a direct stream or supported playlist, and check the menu for connection errors. Try Reconnect or obtain a fresh URL from the station. Stations may restrict access by location or stop broadcasting. Custer does not supply or license a station catalog.
Switching editions
The two editions can be installed side by side, but each stores its own stations and settings. Copy your station addresses into the other edition before removing the old one. Disable the old edition’s Start at login setting to avoid launching both.
